Nokia Unveil The Bicycle Charger Kit | An Eco-Friendly Charging Solution

Nokia has unveiled a cracking new accessory that can provide free and environmentally friendly electricity to charge your Nokia device. The Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit consists of a charger and dynamo, as well as a holder to secure the phone to a bike. When the kit is installed, the dynamo – a small electrical generator – uses the movement of the wheels to charge the handset through the standard 2mm charging jack used in most Nokia mobile phones. With free voice guided navigation also bundled with all the latest Nokia devices, you can guarantee that this handy little number will be very popular indeed.

Alex Lambeek, Vice President at Nokia said, “You must look at a number of things when it comes to power management – such as ensuring the phone’s operating system is as power-efficient as possible. Now, with our innovative bike charger, people get even more freedom to use their Nokia without worrying about battery life. Bicycles are the most widespread means of transport in many markets around the world, so this is just one more benefit to be gained from an activity people are already doing. This is a great solution to a real challenge, whether people will use it due to limited access to electricity, or to be more environmentally responsible.” The kit will be available before the end of the year in selected retailers and Nokia online and branded retail.

New Firmware | v30.0.016 – Nokia N97 & v20.0.016 – Nokia N97 mini

Nokia’s Nseries duo have received new firmware updates. The Nokia N97has been updated from v21.0.102 to v30.0.016 and the Nokia N97 mini has been updated with a rather large update from v11.0.045 to v20.0.016. There is no official changelog for either update, however reports suggest that the new update was pulled shortly after release. If it is still available in your region or for your product code, please share your experiences in the comments below. We’ll try and keep you updated as soon as we here more. New firmware updates generally contain bug fixes and optimizations necessary for the software on your device to perform properly, therefore we recommend you always keep your device up to date.

How To Update The Firmware

There are many ways of updating the firmware on your Nokia handset. To install the software on your device using FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air), type in *#0000# on the home screen or go to Device Manager. Then select Options, Check for updates and follow the on screen prompts. If the firmware update is not immediately available via FOTA, or the device you are using does not have support for this service, you can also update your firmware using NSU (Nokia Software Updater) and or Nokia Ovi Suite on your PC. Once you plug your device in, select the PC Suite option, ensuring that the phone has a Sim Card inserted and the profile is set to General. Some devices support UDP (User Data Preservation), which will preserve all your data and content on your device during these updates. However we still recommend you do a full backup in order to guarantee the safety of your data.
